Yahoo has acquired the massive blogging website Tumblr. Google’s former chief executive Ms. Marissa Mayer (37) who now leads Yahoo shocked the blogging community with a successful $1.1 billion bid which came through yesterday.
Although Yahoo officially declined to comment on the deal but sources indicate that charges proposed by Yahoo include live streaming, something which before was only done with audio and a powerful knew search engine to find “similar” content.
The move comes as a godsend to Yahoo executives, who since having lost out first place to Google have been in searching for ways to improve their game for a number of years.
Tublr was founded by the then 21 year old David Karp in 2007, in his bedroom at mother’s New York apartment. Within two weeks the site already had 75,000 users and by January 2012 that number had increased to 42 million separate blogs. As of May 2013 the site hosted an approximate 110 million separate blogs with 217 million users worldwide, only 75 million of whom accessed the site from the United States and investments have amounted $125 million.
